“Hoodlum Heat” is a hot one I found in my inbox. At first listen, I was immediately hooked by the lush string sample that lead into the Slik Jack’s fire bar work delivered with his gruff vocals in the first verse. As my head nodded in anticipation of hearing Jack continue to ride the beat, the producer cranked up the intensity by rewinding the track and letting Jack start over. The producer, who just happens to be Slik Jack himself, switched the beat a few times with cleverly chopped soul samples. I wasn’t aware that Jack is also a beatmaker, but he obviously knows what he’s doing. He gets a thumbs up for his work on this track. After the hook warns listeners “not to roll the dice if you cant pay the price,” Jae Hussle drops a few gems with his bars describing some folks as “way too internet and childish.” Piff Penny closes things out lacing the track with his own unique flair and “hot sauce.” “Hoodlum Heat” is a well put together collaboration. I would definitely recommend it for anyone interested in hearing some good old fashioned, gem dropping street hip hop.
