Today I want to address a key ingredient to success. That ingredient is passion. I don’t mean to sound cliche. To say you should be passionate about your choice of vocation is cliche. Everyone says it. In my opinion, this is very key to being a successful entrepreneur.
Why is passion so important to the entrepreneur?
Well, lets define what being passionate is to make things clear. If you are passionate about something, you can’t keep it off your mind. When you’re away from it, you can’t wait to get back at it. If you are passionate about something, you would do this thing for free. Why is being passionate so important? Well, excellence requires long hours. Entrepreneurship requires long hours. You can’t excel at something when you’re trying to do just enough.
If you’re looking at the clock anticipating punching out, you’re not doing enough to excel. The truth is, there is no timetable for success. You have to grind it out until momentum turns in your favor. If you are not passionate about what you do you will be very tempted to quit when things aren’t paying off. The passion keeps you going when you’re working long hours for free. The passion makes your work to get better everyday. I have been in businesses where I have had a clear path to success. I knew everything I needed to do to succeed. I just could not do it. I did not have the drive to put in the work because i had no passion for it. I could not see myself doing this work in the future. I could not wait to get through with jobs. When people called with opportunities for more business, I procrastinated and blew opportunities. I had no passion for it.
The things I do now are on my mind 24/7. I have to force myself to go to sleep because I can’t wait to do more. When I see new technology, I immediately see how it can make me better at what i do. I bore my family and friends because I won’t stop talking about my business because I am passionate about what I do. I have gained a level of success and recognition for what I do now way faster than I have with other business ventures because of the passion. I enjoy what I’m doing so much that I truly don’t care if I make a dime. I will still keep doing what i do and trying to get better. This is the passion needed to succeed as an entrepreneur. Before you step out into the realm of entrepreneurship, make sure whatever you choose to do inspires the passion you needed to drive you to success.
