A New Paradigm

MyDetroitHustle.com has been very active on social media.  A lot of people have seen our name and logo. We’ve been going pretty hard.  Now that you guys are aware of our existence, it’s time to let you know what we are about.   We have a lot of things we want to accomplish.  One of the more important things we’ve come to do is offer a new paradigm in hip hop culture. 

What is a paradigm?

For those of you who do not know, a paradigm is a standard, perspective or set of ideas.  To put it simply, a paradigm is a way of thinking.  Too often the perspective for our culture is that of a conspicuous consumer, a drug seller or abuser. We name drop and promote unhealthy financial practices. We abuse our bodies and have unhealthy relationships. The paradigm or way of thinking we offer can often be that of a criminal.  

Can hip hop grow up?

Because hip hop started off as the culture of the youth, a level of immaturity is to be expected.  But what is the role of us that have grown up in hip hop? Are we still supposed to have the same values we had in our teens and twenties?  I think not.  Those who have grown and matured in the culture should continue breaking ground.  It’s time to lay the blueprint for the youngsters and let them know what’s next.  It’s time to let them know what’s fly after you grow up and get out of the streets.  It’s time to let the youth know you found out there are all kinds of ways to have a great life without being in the streets.  As we grow and mature, our culture has to grow and mature also.  

What we came to do

That’s where we come in.  Our paradigm is that of the OG.  We love the hardcore ruggedness of pure hip hop.  We are about making it as hard and authentic as it can be.  But, we no longer equate realness and authenticity with perpetuating messages and practices that are destructive to our community. That’s no knock on anyone else.  But, as a grown ass man, I know how things end in the streets.  Why would I encourage my kids or the youth in general to play a game I know they can’t win.  What kind of leader leads his followers to certain death?

We aim to change what the norm is in hip hop.  We aim to make motivation the norm.  We aim to make entrepreneurship the norm.  We aim to make health and wealth the norm.  This is our new paradigm for hip hop.   The new paradigm is using our culture to benefit us.  The new paradigm is OG’s stepping up being real leaders.  The new paradigm is OG’s being mentors and helping the youth avoid common pitfalls and destroy generational curses.  We are taking our culture back and using it the way it was meant to be used-for us.
