You have to have control of yourself in order to be a successful entrepreneur. You have to be disciplined. You have to be self motivated. No one is going to make you get up and go to work everyday. No one is going to stop you from hanging out every night and partying. You have to be strong enough to say no.
The first step to wealth is getting your life in order. It makes no difference how much money you make if your life is a mess. You will lose it all. You must have control of yourself. You must have discipline. You have to be able to motivate yourself. Entrepreneurship is a lonely road. You have to have the toughness to walk alone. You must surround yourself with supportive people. At the very least, you must be surrounded by people who are willing to stay out of your way and allow you to do what you need to do. You have to evaluate the people around you. Are they assets or liabilities? There is no room in your life for people who are always taking from you. There is no room for people who are always in a jam they need you to bail them out of. Being an entrepreneur is going to take everything you have. There is no room for extra drama. You can’t carry any extra weight.
You can not have an employee’s mindset. You will not be getting a paycheck. You can not spend the way an employee does. You can’t spend money before you make it. You can’t pace yourself financially the way you can with a job. When you have a job, you know you will be getting paid so you can say I can pay for this next week. You can say I can anticipate making this much per month or week. When you are in business for yourself you can’t do that. You have to stay lean with low overhead or you can get caught out there and lose everything. It’s not a game.
Being an entrepreneur is one of the hardest things you will ever do. But the rewards far exceed the sacrifices. Plus, you will never get rich at a job. The amount of wealth you can accumulate as an entrepreneur is unlimited. But you can’t do anything until you get your life together.
