I see entrepreneurs and content creators every day with great business ideas. They have bright ideas about how much money they are going to make. They start calculating their earnings. “All I have to do is sell this many and I will make this amount,” they say. I can do this. I want to do this. I can have this. I, I , I, I. Everything is about what the entrepreneur wants. There is not one thought about their potential customer. Building a business is about serving. You are providing a service. If you want to build a big customer base, you need to start thinking about what you can give before you start trying to ask people for money.
You can sell this
I have an associate I discuss business ideas with. Every time I have an idea or we discuss things he says to me, “That’s a great idea. You can package that and sell it.” Every idea I have, every theory or concept I come up with he says”You should sell it.” The thing is, when I’m problem solving I’m not thinking about selling. I’m trying to solve a problem. When I’m thinking through a concept, I’m doing it because I am trying to come to an understanding of something important to me. Selling is not my reason. I am not thinking about writing a book or selling a course. I am genuinely trying to solve a problem for myself or someone else. I don’t sit around thinking of things to sell. I think about how to solve problems. I usually end up sharing these ideas for free because I know they can really help someone who really needs them. I’m not saying I don’t plan on having products for sale. I do. But, I want to offer my people as much value as I can. When it’s time to sell, I believe the people will appreciate the free game and support.
A price tag on nothing
You may not believe my way works, but you know the opposite way does not. Each and every one of you has an inbox full of people you don’t know offering to sell you something. You don’t know anything about these people so you ignore them. A lot of times you feel insulted. “Who does this person think they are,” you think. Even if they have a good idea, you don’t trust them. If you think about it, everyone you buy from you have some kind of relationship with. You may have watched their videos on YouTube. You might follow them on social media. You listened to the songs on the radio. The point is, they gave you a lot for free. After a while you were ready to buy from them. It does no good to have a great offer and no one knows you. They won’t buy. Show the people the value you bring and they will be more than willing to spend with you..
It’s not about you !!!
The bottom line is, if you want to be in position to sell things to the public, you need to understand it’s not about you. It’s all about the value you bring. If you provide value, the people will be more than willing to spend some money with you.
