I spend a lot of time listening to new music from underground hip hop artists. I do this to make sure I can bring light to the dopest stuff you might not have heard of yet. While doing my research, I am noticing a trend. The ladies are really standing out. I’m not talking about half naked ladies talking about having a hot girl summer. I mean beautiful sisters with high skill levels flexing supreme mic control. Some of the best underground MC’s are females. If you didn’t know, I’m here to tell you.
So let’s start in Buffalo, New York where the Pretti Bulli is on fire with a new project called “Duffel Bag Bulli.” This project is laced with bars and fire production. She also has dope videos for the songs “Simplicity” and “Duffel Bag Bulli.” She’s got joints in rotation on underground hip hop shows and actually the first time I heard her was on Sirius XM radio. Also, she just got a big shout out on Math Hoffa’s ”My Expert Opinion” podcast.
Now let’s move on to Nejma Nefertiti. This sista is a straight up b-girl. Her whole vibe is hip hop from dress to bars. You can catch her hosting and appearing on all kinds of hip hop related shows on the net, but you really need to see and hear her on the mic. She’s a serious technician. Her flow and word play is precise.
Next up is Indigo Phoenyx. She is a prolific writer. She keeps on dropping projects. It seems like she has something new every week. Every one is laced with straight up bars. She also more than holds her own on her many collabs. Her thing is the concept projects and she is a great beat picker. Each one of her projects has an interesting vibe to it. She’s not just a terror in the booth, I caught her one night spitting fire on IG live for Royce 5’9, Big Sean, and Kid Vicious. She did her thing.
Last but not least, I want to talk about one of my favorite MC’s at the moment. Her name is Aida. I know the least about this young lady. I have not heard as much from her as I have the other ladies, but what I have heard has been FIRE!!! I mean, this girl can go. She has an incredible delivery and a nice voice, but her bars…. Man she says some sh#t!!! I don’t know if she is a newcomer, but I can’t wait until she gets into a situation where she can put out more. I’m interested in hearing what more Aida would sound like and if she can continue to rhyme at this level because, she has set the bar so high.
I can go on and on about the dope females I’ve been hearing, but I guess I should stop right here for now. Believe me, there are a lot more. I heard a dope song yesterday from Queen Herawin. I can’t wait to sit down and listen to see what she’s about.
