The MyDetroitHustle.com Hustlers Page is here to bring light to those who are out here making serious business moves. We definitely support art and expression, but we’re also here to encourage those who seek to empower themselves and others economically. I believe the artists I cover on this site will be the next generation of stars and I believe the hustlers on this page will be the next wave of movers and shakers in business. You better try to get with them now while you have a chance before they blow up!
OG Tec
The hustler I want to recognize today is OG Tec. Yes, OG Tec is an artist, but we’re going to recognize the fact that he is also a business man to be wreckoned with. What Tec has done that deserves recognition is put together a movement called 1.T.1.M. which stands for “1 Team 1 Mission.” He hasunited artists from all over the globe as well a industry professionals. These artists and industry professionals unite to help each other produce and promote each other’s music independently. OG Tec interviews artists, provides a platform for people’s music to get heard and coordinates this whole movement while still running his own label Thug Statis Entertainment. OG Tec is the definition of a hustler. You’d be smart to get at him and join the team.
Cheria Meaux/Chipped Cookie Company
Cheria Meaux and Chipped Cookie Company are making big moves in the Metro Detroit Area. Starting from working on a chocolate chip cookie recipe to serve at family functions, Cheria has put together what looks like the beginning of a cookie empire. She has expanded and now offers a lot more flavors than chocolate chip. She graduated from making cookies for family and friends to selling out at vendor events and pop ups. Now she has product in local grocery stores and they are selling out too. Cheria Meaux is an example of the type of grind and hustle we at MyDetroitHustle.com promote. We’re sure her grind and hustle will continue to push Chipped Cookie Company to unimaginable heights.
DJ Butter
At first, I was going to put DJ Butter on the Tastemakers page, but he does so much more than spin records. The man’s hustle can’t be denied, so here he is on the Hustlers page. DJ Butter has put out projects with DJ Dez, DJ King David, Boldy James and has a new project with Pacewon. He spins a mix show on 97.7 Outlaw Radio FM and he just started a podcast called “Funky Fresh in the Flesh” that looks pretty interesting. He is the most consistent promoter of his projects I’ve seen. I swear, he probably has a picture of the Pope holding up one of his cd’s or wearing one of his t-shirts. He is a Detroit hip hop historian that has worked with just about anybody that is anybody in the city. From old school to new, DJ Butter holds down the city of Detroit so let’s take a minute to recognize this Detroit hustler-DJ Butter.
Tyree of Pillar + Pride
This hustler is on a mission to bring wellness to the hood. His name is Tyree and his business is called Pillar + Pride. Pillar + Pride is located on 7 Mile Road, just east of Woodward in Detroit. Pillar + Pride is the spot to get your vitamins, minerals, supplements and essential oils. Lord knows we need that kind of stuff in the city. They have days where they have vegan chefs selling dishes in the store. They sell books. They host discussions about topics that are important to the black community. They have a space you can rent for events and even a podcast recording room. Speaking of podcasts, the We Build Pillar + Pride Podcast is available on all streaming platforms. They have a blog where they discuss things like financial freedom and heart disease. So you see, Tyree is the best kind of hustler. He is a hustler of wellness. With Pillar + Pride he is building a business that puts in to the community instead of exploiting it. We definitely need to support Pillar + Pride. Even if you’re not from Detroit, you can purchase goods on their website. Let’s all get down with the Pillar + Pride movement.
Eric Perry of Wetroit/Kaboodlz Record Label
When it comes to underground hip hop in Detroit, Eric Perry has been the plug. As the proprietor of the legendary record store Kaboodlz, Eric fed the underground with artist that weren’t necessarily getting mainstream love in the city yet. Kaboodlz was the spot artists like Mobb Deep, Pharoahe Monch and Mos Def would come to connect with the Detroit hip hop heads. He would also bring in artist like KRS-One and Mad Lion to do shows in the D. Again, these are not the type of artists we got to see often. Today, Eric is making noise with his Wetroit clothing line and Kaboodlz record label. He dropped a couple of vinyl releases, “A New Day” by Sadat X and Kool Keith and “Yesterday “ featuring Sadat X, Guilty Simpson, Ras Kas and Cadillac Dale. The Wetroit clothing line is blowing up. Expect more big things in the near future from this hustler.
Steve T of Decompress Radio and Decompress Indulgent Edibles
Steve T of Decompress Indulgent Edibles is in the business of making edibles. Yes, he is in the business of getting you lifted. MyDetroitHustle.com is about supporting all individuals who are empowering themselves through business. That is our mission. So, we definitely support Decompress Indulgent Edibles. Steve T is also a big supporter of independent music. I became aware of him because he has been very supportive of MyDetroitHustle.com and some of the artists we support. I believe in reciprocity, so I’ve been telling myself for a minute that I need to sit down and check Steve out so I can figure out how to return the support. Then, he started this thing called Decompress Radio and I decided to check it out. Very dope show, and he seems to be improving the presentation every show. Decompress Radio features videos from artists all across west Michigan. Flint, Pontiac, Battle Creek, Detroit and other cities are represented well with artists bringing the sound of the streets of The Mitten. Check out Steve T of Decompress Indulgent Edibles because he has the type of hustle we’re all about supporting here at MyDetroitHustle.com.
