There is a lot of dope underground, independent and unsigned music out here. With so much music available, somebody’s got to weed through the good stuff and the junk. The MyDetroitHustle.com Tastemakers page is dedicated to giving shine to the people out here curating and providing a platform for the good stuff to be heard.
DJ GlibStylez
I honestly don’t remember how I landed on DJ GlibStylez’s Instagram profile, but I’m glad I did. I’ve been checking out this DJ in my earbuds since I found out about him. He’s been keeping me rocking with smooth blends and dope remixes on his shows on Twitch and Mixcloud. I’ve heard everything from R&Bto Lo-Fi, and it’s all been dope. Of course, my favorite is “The Undergroud Bangerz Mixshow” where he’s mixing underground joints from a lot of my favorite underground artists like Indigo Phoenyx, Mike Titan and A7MC. I’m definitely going to be tuned in to this show in the future. I really think you should too.
DJ Immortal
Broadcasting from Prescott, Ontario, Canada, DJ Immortal is a big time tastemaker. He is the founder and operator of 97.7 Outlaw Radio FM, an internet radio broadcast that features uncensored hip hop 24/7. He programs some of the classics as well as new music from underground, independent and unsigned artists. He has interviewed pretty much everyone who is anyone on the station. He shares his platform with other DJ’s allowing them to mix it up on the station. He has put together the 97.7 Outlaw Radio Virtual Hip Hop Awards to recognize independent artists and industry professionals. With his many contributions to the culture, DJ Immortal is a tastemaker you should definitely be aware of.
S.T.E. Radio
S.T.E. Radio is a dope radio station that plays mainstream and underground music from the streets. They play hot independent music from rap to trap to drill to hip hop. I enjoyed my time listening to S.T.E. Radio. I would describe the station as well rounded. They play a lot of mainstream songs and mainstream artists., but right after a song by Jay-Z, you might hear one by Jamal Gasol. They play music from all over the map. I heard club bangers, radio jams, old school classics, street anthems and joints from independent artists back to back to back. I see they have a mix show too. I can’t wait to check that out. I’m going to continue to listen to S.T.E. Radio to check out all of their shows. The bottom line is, they are supporting independent music and artists,so I’m supporting them and so should you.
DJ Bobby Bieles
This tastemaker has an international flair. DJ Bobby Bieles is a DJ based in Luxembourg. When I came across him I was very interested to hear what kind of vibe he would be on. DJ Bobby Bieles is a very versatile DJ. The mix I heard started off with 21 Savage and artists on that particular vibe, but not the radio cuts. Surprisingly, my head was nodding. Pretty good, he had me rocking to stuff I don”t necessarily listen to. Then he dropped in some international artists with that same vibe. I heard some French and some German. I have no idea what they were saying, but they were definitely flowing. It sounded great. My only question next was, does he play underground hip hop. My question was soon answered with some Curren$y, Styles P, Armani Ceasar, Kool G Rap and Nems. After spending a little time rockin’ with BJ Bobby Bieles, I’ve come to the conclusion that I should definitely continue to tune in. I will be checkin’ for new DJ Bobby Bieles mixes. I would highly recommend you check him out too.
DJ Ronsha & G -Zon
If you don’t know, there is very serious support for the boom bap in Europe. These two international tastemakers are strong supporters of the underground. DJ Ronsha & G- Zon, hailing from Paris, France, make it clear that they stand with the boom bap 100%. Their show, The Ronsha Mix Boom Bap Show, is nothing but hard beats, hard lyrics, mixing and scratching. There is no deviation. There is no confusion. They come to represent the true school. I was first made aware of DJ Ronsha because they sent me a track, “Underground Things” by Napoleon Da Legend that was really dope. Apparently DJ Ronsha made the beat. You can check out “Underground Things” by DJ Ronsha and Napoleon Da Legend on the MyDetroitHustle.com Playlist #4. If you need a fix of the uncut raw boom bap, check out DJ Ronsha & G-Zon on the DJ Ronsha Mix Boom Bap show which is available on Mixcloud. Paris, France ain’t playin’ around.
The Art of Rhymin’
Al V is an Emcee out of Canada. I first became aware of him was from a song he did called “All Spark” with Hilltop Productions. You can check that out on the MyDetroitHustle.com Playlist #1 on Spotify. The reason Al is on our Tastemakers page is for the dope interview series he’s put together called “The Art of Rhymin’.” He interviews emcees on IG live. He’s not just interviewing any emcees, he’s interviewing upper echelon emcees skill wise. He’s not just doing interviews, he’s going in deep with them. You can tell he’s actually getting into these people’s catalogs before the interviews and that is what makes “The Art of Rhymin’” so dope. Be sure to check out Al V’s “Art of Rhymin’” series on Instagram.
