The Word is our ear in the streets. Here you can find out what’s really going on out here in the world. No fancy write ups or propaganda, just what we’re hearing from the streets, the industry, the internet and more.
“Breathe Reloaded”
One of my favorite songs, “Breathe,” by one of my favorite artists, On Point, is back minus a featured artist and with dope new artwork. The Dub 3030 produced track features On Point, OG Tec, Lil Keke and Melanie Rutherford. I have said it before. I will say it again. This song would be a hit if it was on radio. I’m glad the brother will continue to push this song. If it was my song, I would keep pushing it for a lifetime if necessary. I also understand On Point will be dropping another project very soon so be on the lookout for that. Also, check out the interview of On Point we did on My Detroit HustleTV on YouTube.
OG Tec is on a run!!!
OG Tec is definitely out here moving. He recently did an interview with us you can check out on YouTube @ MyDetroitHustleTV6438. I also saw him doing an interview on a very dope podcast called “The Preacher’s Corner with Pastor JT & Lady Fenita.” Now I see the OG on the cover of Stardom 101 Magazine. He just dropped a single and video for his song “Dangerous” and was off shooting another video. He’s in the schools talking to the kids, trying to encourage them to follow a righteous path. He is definitely moving with a purpose right now. You can feel the momentum building. I would not be surprised if this turns out to be a very big summer for OG Tec.
StackAlmighty “The Devil Wears God’s Favorite Color”
StackAlmighty recently dropped a new project called “The Devil Wears God’s Favorite Color.” I don’t know what the title means. I guess I will ask him when I get the chance. I might not understand the title, but I do understand this project is full of dope lyrics and production including the joint “Pistol and a Bag of Money” that features Boldy James. Expect to hear a joint or two from this project on future playlists. Until then, it’s available to stream on all platforms so check it out.
Indigo Phoenyx A&R?
I think Indigo Phoenyx is one of the best beat pickers I’ve heard in a while. It seems like every time she posts snippets of her songs on social media, I find myself saying,” My God, that beat is bangin’.” Believe it or not, being able to pick beats is a talent. It’s a talent a lot of MC’s don’t have. I feel like every MC should have a relationship with at least one dope producer to provide him/her with beats. If you don’t have an in house producer, you need someone to help you weed through your various beat options. If I were a hip hop label head with roster of artists, I would be trying throw money at Indigo Phoenyx to help me put my artists’ projects together. I hear so many talented lyricists that either can’t get or can’t pick beats. Maybe some of you should humble yourselves and pay someone with an ear to help you out. I have no idea if she does that type of thing, but if I was having a beat problem, I would definitely be trying to pay someone like Indigo Phoenyx to help me choose beats for my project.
Ask the Alligator
One of my favorite MC’s, Aida, is also an author. She has a book called “Ask the Alligator.” I really want to get a hold of this book. I’m definitely going to order myself a copy. If you’ve seen her posts on social media or heard her rhyme, I know you understand why I need this book. She is part mad scientist, part comedian and part motivational speaker. She is one of those people that you can just sit and watch and be entertained. I look forward to every verse she drops to hear what she’s going to say next. I do the same with her social media posts. There is no doubt in my mind I will be thoroughly entertained by each page of “Ask the Alligator,” the same way I am entertained with each bar of each verse she drops. I gotta get this book!!!
On Point is on fire!!!
The word is that Pontiac’s On Point is an artist you need to be on the look out for. This guy has dope lyrics, dope production, dope presentation and is part of a clique that is going to make a lot of noise in 2022. He has a couple of dope albums, ”PTSD” and ”Ascenscion,” available on all streaming platforms you should definitely be checking for. He has features with Project Pat, Pastor Troy, T Rock, Lil Keke and many more heavy hitters. You can catch him featured on many projects from artists all over the south and midwest. If you want to know who’s next, I got my money on On Point.
Ladies First
For those of you who haven’t noticed, the ladies are holding it down on the mic in a major way. With that being said, I had the pleasure of viewing Indigo Phoenyx discussing what she’s got on deck for the near future. She’s has a new project, ”The Dynasty of Dominique Devereaux,” available on Bandcamp you should check out. She’s dropping a video for a joint called ”Vice Grip” with another incredible female MC, Nejma Nefertiti, very soon and even mentioned potentially working with Detroit’s powerhouse producer Foul Mouth. Be sure to check out Indigo Phoenyx on Instagram @ IndigoPhoenyx.
Cookin’ Up with Big T Beatz
Just sat in on a studio session with Big T Beatz via IG live. My man is putting together some serious heat. If you like funky joints with a live instrumental feel you should definitely check him out . He’s got a project out now on all streaming platforms called ”Doper than Dope 2” with some pretty dope collaborations. Check him out on IG @ BigTBeatz810.
Bars 4 Breakfast
One afternoon, I was riding in my vehicle listening to Shade45 in the afternoon. There was a battle of the beats type thing going on. The winner that day was a dope female MC and she caught my ear with a very profane and clever line that I won’t repeat hear. Bottom line, she was dope. A day or two latter I happened to hear a dope female on Instagram spittin’ some serious heat. Surprise, it was the same dope female I heard on Shade45. Her name is Pretty Bulli and she is for real. Anyways, she does this thing called “Bars 4 Breakfast”where she goes live and spits a 16 while sitting in the ride, I guess, on the way to work. She always flexes superior penmanship. I always look forward to hearing what she’s going to say next. She has a project coming out in early June called ”Duffel Bag Bulli” that I can’t wait to hear. You can find Pretty Bulli on Instagram @Pretty_Bulli.
Real OG’s
At MyDetroitHustle.com, we are one hundred percent behind men growing up and being real OG’s. What do we mean by OG’s? We mean men who are willing to be examples for the next generation. Men who are willing to share their experiences to help the next generation start where they left off instead of having to start from scratch. We’re going to get deeper in this topic later, but right now, I want to give a shout out to some of the fellas doing some real OG sh#t. I’m talking about some of the great MC’s around Detroit that have helped introduce their children to the music business. The music industry is cut throat and very difficult to navigate alone. Having a parent that has experience in the business is a great resource to have. I want to give a shout out to K Stone, P Gruv, Fatt Father and Slautah. These are all music industry vets who have accomplished a lot, who have seeds they have collaborated with or who are recording artists. Check out Sed The Truth, son of Slautah and his new song and video ”Rap Dreams.”
Funky Fresh in the Flesh Podcast
DJ Butter and B Boy Reg have started a dope podcast called Funky Fresh in the Flesh. From what I can tell, the podcast is going to be covering those who made early contributions to Detroit hip hop. So far, I have seen they’ve interviewed Mersiless Amir, Jack Frost and Gloc from NoCoast. I think this podcast is very much needed because I personally believe that pre-8 Mile Detroit hip hop has definitely been ignored. There was a lot that went down before The Hip Hop Shop and St Andrews became legendary. Of course, they’re interviewing artists from The Hip Hop Shop era too, but it’s good to see someone going further back on the timeline too. Be sure to check out the Funky Fresh in the Flesh podcast.

Naturally Bee ‘N Me selling out!!!
The word is that Charity Shorter’s Naturally Bee ‘N Me hair growth elixirs are selling like crazy at Meijer’s Rivertown Market @ 1475 East Jefferson. You can grab your Naturally Bee ‘N Me products in aisle 8, second shelf from the top.
From the Desk of Lo
I was on Twitter the other day and I ran across a dope profile of a podcast the other day. I clicked on the link and ended up staying for hours listening to dope interviews. The show is called “From the Desk of Lo.” This guy has interviewed Shifty McVay, Ras Kas, Yukmouth, Black Moon, Guilty Simpson, Crooked I and many more. I have to say, I was very entertained and will continue to tune in to the show. I definitely want to hear what the many Detroit artists he’s interviewed are up to. The show is definitely worth checking out. You can listen to “From the Desk of Lo” on all streaming platforms and on YouTube.
Detroit Dreamin’
I was a little conflicted when deciding what I want to say about the new release ”Detroit Dreams.” On one hand, these Detroit movies have become redundant. Street dudes selling dope. Street dudes hang out at the strip club. Sex scene with stripper. Street dudes shoot it out. Real one loses his life to the streets. Repeat. It is true, maybe we in Detroit need to expand or our subject matter. It’s also true these Detroit street movies have been a great vehicle to expose local talent. Ultimately, I want to talk about what makes ”Detroit Dreams” more than the typical Detroit rap movie. First of all, Detroit OG Al Nuke has put together a very professional piece of urban cinema. He’s featured a lot of local businesses and given a lot of local talent some shine. I really enjoyed seeing familiar faces like Big Herk, DJ Hen House, Dj Fingers and Supa Emcee on the screen. What I have been most impressed with is the roll out of the film. Al has done a tremendous job making the city aware of this film. That is what is most on brand with what we’re about here at MyDetroitHustle.com, and that is why I feel obligated to feature ”Detroit Dreams” on the site. Al Nuke’s “Detroit Dreams” is an example of the independent hustle we are here to support. You can check out ”Detroit Dreams” today on Tubi.
Bizarre’s Expert Opinion
Former member of D12, Bizarre is back with a new album, ”He Got a Gun.” This album is produced by Foulmouth who is currently the hottest underground hip hop producer in Detroit. He’s got features from Nems, Young Zee, Kool Keith, Ty Farris and more. I had the pleasure of attending the release party and it was off the hook. Bizarre has been on a pretty impressive press run to promote the album. He recently made a stop on Math Hoffa’s ”My Expert Opinion” podcast to engage in some pretty interesting conversation. Be sure to support this Detroit OG’s latest offering as he returns to his underground hip hop roots.
Earl Rich Signature Brand
The Earl Rich Signature Brand is the brain child of Detroit OG Richard Bailes. Richard Bailes is the embodiment of the OG that graduated from the streets to running a successful business. If you don’t know, ask somebody. You can see people rocking the Earl Rich Brand all over the streets of Detroit. He’s got hoodies, sweats, shoes, purses, hats and pretty much some of everything else. All of it looks fly and anybody who is anybody is rockin’ it. Go check out the Earl Rich Signature Brand at their flagship store @ 19618 West McNichols in Detroit.
Hilltop Productions make Boom Bap Magic
I just heard the most amazing beat on Instagram. I don’t know the name of it, because they don’t have a title on it, but it is amazing. I checked out some of their other beats and they are banging too. These beats come from a crew called Hilltop Productions out of Cincinnati, Ohio. They make straight up Boom Bap magic. Don’t take my word for it, check them out!
“In the Gym with DJ Jewels Baby”.
I came across a dope show tonite. It’s called “In the Gym with DJ Jewels Baby.” For those of you that don’t know, DJ Jewels is a dope DJ and MC that has put in some serious work in the Detroit hip hop scene. The show has a very dope concept. DJ Jewels is a trainer, so his show takes place at a gym. He works artists out, then interviews them, then the artist performs. The whole concept is dope. I haven’t seen anything like it before. The show I saw featured Fatt Father of Detroit’s legendary Fat Killahz. You can check out “In the Gym with DJ Jewels Baby” on YouTube @ DJ Jewels Baby.
Guilty Goes Where He Pleases
Guilty Simpson just dropped a new video for the song ”Go Where I Please.” The joint is produced by Kount Fif and features cuts by DJ Ragz. The video is by R.M.L. and was shot by DJ Butter, Grizm and Ron Moe. It’s a head nodding boom bap beat with gritty footage of Detroit, Guilty in the studio and wrestling footage of the Iron Sheek and Andre the Giant.
The Glove is on the Mic
I gotta admit. This is a fan boy minute. I was on IG live talking to my girl Shadysbeats and she asked, “Do you want to meet Chris “The Glove” Taylor?”Instantly I was once again a little kid in the theater watching Turbo and Ozone battling in the movie “Breakin’.” Ice T was on the mic looking like a punk rocker and Chris “The Glove” was on the turntables. He’s Reckless. It was a classic memory. So, of course I said, “Hell yeah, The Glove is a legend!” Thanks to Shadysbeats for the link. Over the years, The Glove has been doing a lot of producing and mixing on the west coast. He was a contributor to some the classics from Death Row records and Dr. Dre’s camp. Now, he’s picked up the mic. The Glove has a album called “Redshirt Freshman” that features him on the mic on top of classic west coast production. I can’t wait to here the whole thing. What I have heard is pretty dope.
The Two Illest on IG!!!
There is nothing like a good laugh to get you through the day. Laughter is the best medicine. One thing I can count on everyday is for my timeline to be littered with funny, outrageous and down right disrespectful content from @Pepsofunny and @Black.Sooperman on Instagram. If you want a good laugh, check these two out. They will keep you laughing, but warning, they are not for the faint of heart.
